Crystal Microdermabrasion
Crystal Microdermabrasion is an ablative procedure defined as the wearing away or removal of the outer or forward surface of an object by means of heat, force or friction. Crystal microdermabrasion treatments involve the use of a special, hand-held device that propels a high-speed flow of aluminum oxide crystals that are “blasted” out onto the skin. At the same time, the machine’s vacuum system sucks away dirt, dead cells and used crystals.
Microdermabrasion is indicated for photoaging, fine lines, and superficial scarring. Microdermabrasion does not carry the risks of pigmentary changes or scarring engendered by techniques such as dermabrasion, chemical peels, or laser resurfacing. Therefore, this treatment involves little risk and rapid recovery. Microdermabrasion is well suited for patients with early photodamage and busy lifestyles because the only real downtime is that of the treatment itself.
